Background is the key, and experiment with a few fonts and have a good tag line.

Now you're a pro, you can have any colour or image in any area - with blog.co.uk, it's best to have the right size pic as your header. You can see how the one you have at the moment is starting to loop.

I think one of your best recipes up there will look great, rather than simple kitchen stuff.

It is hard to add anything to what GiraenH has said. I have had my second blog for a few months and have had fun changing the backgrounds and colours. You might want to separate say your recipes from your demonstrations; but you need to work out if that makes sense!

I have not consistently viewed your postings but when I have seen them they have always been very sophisticated and interesting. My only (very minor) question is to ask if you have worked most of your life in the US? That is not to be perjorative (my employer is in Texas!) and I have experienced a lot of lovely dishes (e.g. blackened fish) in the US.

However, I have to say (as an older guy than you!) I find it much easier to cook with modern round metric quantities; like say Nigel Slater. I have made so many mistakes with imperial in the past and would never be in my current engineering job if we had stayed with imperial...

I am sorry to nag (as your recipes usually make me drool) but with say with http://wannabetvchef.blog.co.uk/2007/05/23/hot_smoked_salmon_with_pineapple_salsa_s~2319525 it is a shame you did not specify 1 kg salmon. That is the sort of rule of thumb I would use. But...forgive my pedantism...the photography was lovely.

OK, this is an afterthough...I love the simplicity of the beater but you might want to change that to other symbols of being a food blog.

I started with a Japanese kitchen knife and some veg in the same position. More recently I threw out that picture and put herbal pictures as the background.

I cannot judge what is best but find it fun to change from time to time. I would just say do not do it too often.

BTW, don't be put off by the abuse of the blog ratings. I signed on with a "UK blog indexing site" and 3 months later they have not fulfilled their bargain. My registration went into a black hole! Your blog will stand on its merits!
